DESCRIPTION:

Hath(a) simply refers to the practice of physical Yog(a) postures, meaning your Ashtang(a), Vinyasa, Iyengar and Power Yoga classes are all Hath(a) Yog(a). The word “hath(a)” can be translated two ways: as “willful” or “forceful,” or the yoga of activity, and as “sun” (ha) and “moon” (th(a)), the Yog(a) of balance. 

TYPICAL CLASS:

In my practice we start with gentle, smooth movements to warm up the joints and “key” muscle groups… eventually reaching the vinyasa (flow) of SUN and MOON salutations, with which we play to achieve deep “meaningful” stretches that transfer from mind to body and vice versa. Generally closing with spine mobility asanas (poses). Giving the whole body and mind a challenging and rejuvenating “work out”.

NOTES:

Caution should be taken when holding an injury. Communication is key – please let us know if you are pregnant, on medication, recovery and so on. Each class offers a range of equipment such as yoga mats, bolsters, blocks, blankets and straps. These props are free to use whether suggested by the teacher at the start of the class or not.
